J.K. Rowling has a clear message for Harry Potter stars Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe: if they ever feel the need to apologize for disagreeing with her views on trans issues, she advises them to consider directing their apologies to traumatized detransitioners and vulnerable women.
In an unexpected turn, the author of the Harry Potter series criticized Radcliffe and Watson for their support of trans individuals, adding a new dimension to her ongoing opposition to trans rights.
Rowling criticized Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe for backing a movement she believes undermines women’s rights and for supporting gender treatment for minors, a stance she disagrees with. She suggested that if they ever decide to apologize, they should address it to others.
A commenter pointed out that Rowling has close ties with celebrities like Radcliffe and Watson, who openly support transgender rights.
Just waiting for Dan and Emma to publicly apologize to you… confident that you’ll forgive them, the commenter remarked.

Rowling’s response was straightforward: “Sorry, not quite there. Celebrities who support movements that undermine women’s rights and advocate for the transition of minors should direct their apologies to detransitioners and women seeking gender-segregated spaces.”
Despite avoiding public confrontations with Rowling, Radcliffe and Watson have consistently voiced their support for transgender rights. In interviews during Rowling’s periods of outspokenness in 2019 and 2020, both actors openly backed transgender individuals.
In a 2019 interview with Vogue, Watson expressed her support for transgender rights, although she did not directly address Rowling’s views.
Radcliffe wrote an essay showing his support for transgender individuals, making it clear that he didn’t want to argue with Rowling. He strongly endorsed trans rights, condemned any discrimination against them, and sent a message of solidarity to transgender “Harry Potter” fans who might be upset by Rowling’s views. Radcliffe expressed his hope that they would still find value in the stories despite Rowling’s stance.
