After ‘Thor 4’ Disappointment, Actor Believes He Owes Fans a Better Marvel Film
Chris Hemsworth Attributes ‘Love and Thunder’s’ Shortcomings to Himself (Image Credit: IMDb)
Chris Hemsworth recently shared his thoughts on the mixed reactions to Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder” in a Vanity Fair profile. The actor admitted some regrets about his approach to the role, saying, “I got caught up in the improv and the wackiness, and I became a parody of myself. I didn’t stick the landing.” Hemsworth believes he owes fans another Thor movie to make up for the fourth film’s shortcomings.

The possibility of another Thor movie is currently up in the air, as Marvel Studios has put a temporary hold on launching new projects to re-strategize after a difficult period. Nonetheless, Hemsworth remains enthusiastic about continuing his role within the vast Marvel universe. Despite the lukewarm reception of “Love and Thunder,” the film introduced Brett Goldstein’s Hercules, setting the stage for potential future plots. Moreover, the prospect of reuniting Hemsworth’s Thor with Tom Hiddleston’s Loki continues to hold appeal for fans.
In 2024, the only MCU film hitting theaters will be “Deadpool & Wolverine,” premiering in July. Also in July, Marvel plans to return to San Diego Comic-Con for the first time since 2022, after missing last year due to the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. This event could potentially unveil more details about a possible Thor reboot starring Chris Hemsworth.
Additionally, Hemsworth shared that while the Netflix Extraction movies were challenging, his latest role in George Miller’s “Furiosa” offered a refreshing change. He noted this especially after the demanding shoot for “Extraction 2” on Netflix, which he managed through despite a back injury.
As soon as I started rehearsals for [Furiosa], everything changed,” he said. I felt reinvigorated. Suffering without purpose is terrible, but suffering with a purpose can be revitalizing. I was really tired of myself, and this role offered me a chance to truly immerse myself in a character again.
The 40-year-old might be too critical of himself, a trait he acknowledges, particularly since the film’s creative direction was largely in the hands of its co-writer and director, Taika Waititi. Waititi previously helmed what is widely considered the best film in the Thor series, 2017’s “Thor: Ragnarok.” Additionally, while “Love and Thunder” might not have been a fan favorite, it still grossed $760 million at the box office and achieved a 63 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes, performing better than many recent films in an era often described as having superhero fatigue.
Therefore, while the public may generally agree with Clooney’s criticism of Batman & Robin, Chris Hemsworth’s criticism of Thor: Love and Thunder may be viewed as going too far. Redemption, though, might not be too far off.
The actor’s journey is far from finished, as we know that he will make an appearance with Deadpool and Wolverine in at least one upcoming Marvel film. Although it’s unclear exactly where Chris Hemsworth’s Marvel career will lead him, you can sure that Thor: Love and Thunder will be a big part of his resumption when it comes to using Mjolnir.
