During a recent podcast interview with Radio Times, Allen was questioned about if being a mother had affected the way she approached her work. Her response, characteristically candid, was, “I’ve never really had a career strategy, but yes, having kids changed everything.”
“I love them, but let’s just say they put a dent in my pop stardom plans,” Allen humorously said.
In his discontent with the notion of “having it all,” Allen brought attention to the challenges of balancing a job with raising a family. She said that everyone has various priorities and choices to make.
Allen chose to refocus on her two girls, whom she shares with her ex-husband, over her music career, even though her songs, including “Smile” and “LDN,” sent her UK charting. Her personal experiences growing up with parents who were frequently away from home because of their jobs had an impact on this choice.
Currently residing in New York City alongside her daughters and her spouse, actor David Harbour, whom she wed in 2020, Allen persistently strikes a balance between her love of music and her family life.
